Association for Science in Autism Treatment
As many of our readers know, we are formally showcasing some of the incredible, hardworking volunteers who share their time and talent with ASAT. In this installment, we feature Aboli Jadhav, BE, who lives in India and is the mother of a young girl with autism.
Aboli first joined ASAT as an Extern back in late 2021. She initially inquired about serving as a volunteer but we were able to persuade her to take part in the Externship. Aboli faithfully joined our Zoom meetings despite the 9-hour time difference requiring her well before sunrise. Not only was she among the most conscientious and industrious Externs, she completed our program efficiently and successfully.
With respect to writing, Aboli translated several articles that have been published in our monthly publication, Science in Autism Treatment. These include:
-
- What is autism? in Hindi
- Advocating for your child in Hindi
- Early detection and intervention in Hindi
- My child is home with me. Any suggestions for home schooling? in Hindi
- A review of Promoting functional communication within the home in Hindi
- ASAT’s Newsletter Flyer in Marathi
- ASAT’s Website Flyer in Marathi
Marcia Questel and I interviewed Aboli last Fall. In that interview, titled A Mother’s Reflections on Diagnosis, Advocacy, and Action, she generously shared her insights and experience learning of her daughter’s diagnosis and eventually becoming an advocate both on the local and global level. Please check out the link above to read more about Aboli’s story.
Aside from writing, Aboli acquired considerable proofreading experience as an Extern, reviewing and editing articles for Science in Autism Treatment. In fact, we would often lean on Aboli heavily as the last “set of eyes” as she reliably pinpointed the most undetectable of typos.
One of the other ways Aboli left an indelible imprint on the Externship is that she helped us create a system for Externs to document reading activities related to their personal learning goals. She helped make that process and procedure as clear as possible for other Externs who are now using what she created.
Based on our very positive experiences with Aboli, it was clear that she was the type of individual who could make ongoing contributions to ASAT. Upon completion of her 150-hour Externship, I quickly invited her to assume the role of Newsletter Content Coordinator. In this expanded role, Aboli continues to support our proofreading efforts while also helping us develop shorter blurbs for social media, suggesting articles to accompany soon-to-be published articles, and identifying suitable hashtags for each piece, which increases their reach to new audiences. She also plays an instrumental role in helping us thank the many authors who share their expertise and insights with our readers. She continues to help us maintain our presence on social media by sharing posts about our newly published content on Facebook.
Aboli lives in Maharashtra, India. She completed her bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering. She and her husband, Sagar, were married in 2016, and he is also a software engineer. They are raising a beautiful daughter named Navya, who is now six years old. When she is not sharing her time and talents with ASAT, she enjoys reading, dancing, and spending time outdoors.
Thank you, Aboli! We are very lucky to benefit from your time and talents!
