Association for Science in Autism Treatment
Our recent 25th anniversary provides us with an opportunity to look beyond those who have served on our Board of Directors and our Professional Advisory Board and reflect on the many other volunteers who have shared their time and talent with ASAT. In this installment, we feature one of our longest standing volunteers, Dr. Kerry Ann Conde, who resides on Long Island and has served in two important capacities: Subscriptions Coordinator and currently as Social Media Co-Coordinator.
I first met Kerry Ann, in my capacity as the Autism SIG President, when she was a student attending the Association for Behavior Analysis International’s Third Annual Autism Conference in Jacksonville, Florida. I was immediately struck by her energy, professionalism, and desire to make a difference. We very quickly engaged Kerry Ann in various projects within both the Autism and Parent Professional Partnership (PPP) SIGs. For several years, as part of her duties as a Consumer Liaison with the PPP SIG, Kerry Ann provided an orientation to parents and new members titled Welcome to the ABAI Convention. For parents, students, and other first-timers, Kerry Ann’s warmth and enthusiasm shone through. During this period, we observed a very steep increase in the number of members of both SIGs, in part, due to Kerry Ann’s efforts.
Based on our experiences with Kerry Ann, it was clear that she was the type of individual who could make contributions to ASAT, and she has since supported our work in a variety of capacities, initially helping us acquire new subscribers to our free publication, Science in Autism Treatment. In 2019, we invited Kerry Ann to become our Social Media Co-Coordinator. She assists us in onboarding new Externs, grades their preliminary assignments related to social media utilization, monitors activity on ASAT’s Facebook page, and assists with the review of social media metrics. Kerry Ann is a wonderful and encouraging mentor and an important part of ASAT’s Externship experience. We also invite readers to check out Kerry Ann’s article, How ASAT supports faculty in and out of the classroom.
When she is not sharing her time and talents with ASAT, Kerry Ann is quite busy. She is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Verified Course Sequence (VCS) Coordinator of the ABA Graduate Programs at St. Joseph’s University. Kerry Ann teaches online ABA graduate courses, as well as in-person undergraduate education courses. In addition to advising and mentoring students, she ensures that everything is up to date with their course sequence requirements. Finally, Kerry Ann serves as Co-Founder and Clinical Advisor for Behavior Science Technology and is Chairwoman of the Board for Panhandle Behavioral Services. In her free time (hard to imagine she has any), she is an active volunteer at her church in Lake Ronkonkoma, New York.
Thank you, Kerry Ann! We are very lucky to benefit from your time and talents!
