Association for Science in Autism Treatment
Our 25th anniversary provides us with an opportunity to look beyond those who have served on our Board of Directors and our Professional Advisory Board and reflect on the countless other volunteers who have shared their time and talent with ASAT. In this third installment, we feature Marcia Questel, MSEd, BCBA, who resides in Connecticut and serves in two important capacities: Newsletter Content Editor and Externship Co-Coordinator.
I became familiar with Marcia through her work in the field and I requested that she write an article for families about adjusting to and managing the rapid and substantial changes brought about by COVID-19. I was immediately struck by her warmth, professionalism, and collegial manner. We very quickly invited Marcia to join the editorial team of our monthly publication, Science in Autism Treatment and then swiftly into a more formal position due to the high quality of her editing work. She currently serves as our Content Editor which is an essential and significant role given our commitment to publishing high-quality, scientifically-based content every month. Further, she has authored and contributed to several articles in her time with us (as listed below).
Marcia has garnered considerable editing and proofreading experience, reviewing over thirty-five issues of our monthly publication, Science in Autism Treatment (yes, you read that correctly). Her well developed oral and written communication skills, coupled with her nurturing manner, come through consistently in her well-conceptualized and delivered feedback to a vast array of writers. I am very grateful for Marcia’s role in making our publication a tremendous success month after month.
Based on our experiences with Marcia, it was clear that she was the type of individual who could make other contributions to ASAT, specifically related to our Externship. We invited Marcia to become our Externship Co-Coordinator almost three years ago. She assists us in onboarding new Externs, grades some of their preliminary assignments, helps them to formulate and launch their individualized goals, and provides feedback on their progress. One of the specific roles that Marcia plays is to coordinate the portion of our meetings when Externs report their goals or their progress towards their goals. Her comments and reactions convey genuine interest, gratitude, and abundant encouragement – ensuring that each Extern feels valued and appreciated. She is an incredible mentor to Externs of all ages and backgrounds.
I am not done… Marcia plays a leadership role in promoting engagement on ASAT’s social media pages (particularly LinkedIn) and is credited for much of our page’s rapid growth over the last year. She is well liked by our Externs and board members alike and is an incredible asset to ASAT.
When she is not sharing her time and talents with ASAT, Marcia works as a Behavior & Program Consultant with ABAskills, LLC; provides clinical training and supervision to educators and therapists; engages in research focused on emotion regulation; and serves as a Postgraduate Research Fellow at the Yale Child Study Center. Outside of work, Marcia spends as much time as she can in nature with her family, and she often teaches others about the value of free play. Thank you, Marcia! We are blessed to have you on our team.
